Why Pandia? Pandia is the Greek Goddess of the moon and creativity. And I have been obsessed with the moon and various arts and crafts ever since I was a little girl. It was my Mom who first taught me to do counted cross stitch and then crochet. Twenty-five years later I asked her to teach me how to knit so that I could make socks. And my love of fiber and all things relating to "string" has done nothing but grow ever since.
In 2011 I started this business as a way to support my family (especially my daughter) as I worked on my Masters in Education. More recently, it allows me to work from home and at my own pace since being diagnosed with Lupus in 2015. Every item I sell (with the exception of a few things) had been designed, made, or dyed by me. I am also the only person who packages, ships, advertises, photographs, and does what ever else this small business requires day to day.
My Lupus does complicate things. Most of the time the brain fog gets in the way and I make mistakes all the time because I have difficulty understanding or processing what is going on around me. This confusion and misunderstanding can be very frustrating. And it does place limits on what I am able to do on a daily basis. But I really try not to let it keep me down.
Gothic Jewels is a new venture that my Husband and I have started together. Much of this has come for recent debilitating health issues and trying to find a new way to refocus my creative energies. The collection is a combination of fiber crafts and metal fabrications born out of our love for Halloween and wanting unique hand crafted items to decorate our home. Naturally we are not the only ones who love Halloween year round so we are offering up this small collection to our customers as well.
I am also a Mom to 4 fur babies and while my cats do not knit they do love yarn. My dye studio and where I store my yarns are off limits to them. But the nature of cat hair is mysterious and it can still creep its way into things.
Finally, I just want to say thank you for taking the time to read my story. And thank you so much for supporting me and my small business.
